Matthew is believed to have been born after 1627 due to the fact he was presumably still living with the family in Sandwich, but not enumerated in the Able to Bear Arms list of 1643 (which listed every able-bodied male between the ages of 16-60). From this, we infer he was then not yet 16, so born after 1627. The family moved to The Hague in 1627, so it is likely he was born there.
At some point in time (likely after he turned 21) Matthew moved back to England, and married Joan(e) Newman of Strood (daughter of Robert Newman). Matthew died, and the widow remarried ______ Nicholson by 1653. While Matthew & Mary had a son, John, both the son and Mary were deceased by 1680.
The son died without issue, so John, Daniel & Stephen were the heirs of Matthew's estate in New England (he apparently owned some property in Plymouth Colony, possibly he inherited it from his mother). An interesting 1680 probate document recalls this information but the original document has become lost.
