Biography

Winnifred Wire was born in Canada; both of her parents had been born in Iowa, USA, and homesteaded in Saskatchewan in 1910. Her father Willard joined the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in WW1, and died in France. His wife then took her children and returned to the USA.

Winnifred (also known as Mae) was a resident of the Cambridge area most of her life. She was a homemaker.

Obituary, Des Moines Register, March 14, 1985, page 7M Services for Jessie Winnefred Warren, 74, of Cambridge, who died of a heart ailment Tuesday at her home, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home at Slater. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery at rural Cambridge.

Survivors include two sons, Frederick M. of North Carolina and Frank of Cambridge, four daughters Rita Swarens and Judy Joy, both of Kansas City, Mo., Darlene K. Knotts of Newburg, W. Va. and Mary Williams of Ames; 12 grandchildren; and a great grandchild. Friends may call at the funeral home.
