Name
Using Clara W. [Wise] Hackworth, as on her headstone.[1]
Her birth record clearly reads "Clora" Wise, with no middle initial.[2]
Listed as Claira Wise in the 1910 census.[3]
Her marriage record gives her name once as Clara Ella Wise, but twice elsewhere on the record there is a pen stroke across the apparent L's to make it Etta.
Born
5 August 1891 in Putnam County, West Virginia. Her father was David Wise, mother was Henrietta (Ellis) Wise.[4]
Marriages
Clara married Thomas Powell Hackworth on 5 January 1910 at her father's home. She was 18, he was 21. (Husband's name was incorrectly recorded as "Hackwith" on their marriage record)[5]Thomas died in 1918.
Clara married John Wesley Hackworth on 23 July 1925, in Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia. He was 58, she was 35, and both were widowed.[6] A very cursory search turned up no obvious relationship to Thomas.
Death
6 Dec 1967, Norfolk, Virginia, of cerebral hemorrhage brought on by hypertension.[7]
