Biography

Michael was the half brother of Mary Elizabeth Crim's children born to Martin Wolford. He was an unusual man. He was a mechanic, a Union man, very pious and blessed (?) by a sharp tongued mother-in-law. ...Michael was reared with the family of Martin and Mary and took the Wolford name.

Mrs. Mamie Stewart, daughter of Taylor Hiett, reared in the Pleasant Dale-Augusta neighborhood told Mrs. Charles Fee in writing: "Your letter asking information about Michael Wolford written to Mr. Arthur Slonaker. PO Box Capon Bridge, WV has finally reached me from Mr. Slonaker, for we are intimate friends, and I visit them once in awhile, as he married one of my cousins, and I had married John J. Wolford's grandson George W. Stewart, he sent the letter to me thinking I could tell you more than he could, so I'll try to tell you what I an remember about the family- This Martin Wolford married a woman whose name was ---- Crim that already had a little boy "Michael" so he grew up with his half brothers and sisters as they were born in the family and was called a Wolford too.

According to census records, Michael was a farmer.

Burial is at Malick Cemetery, Augusta, Hampshire County, Virginia (now West Virginia).
