Biography

John was born about 1830. He is the son of Robert WOOD and Jean CALDER.

On the night of the 1841 Census, age 10, he was staying with his maternal grandparents John and Janet CALDER in the village of Fetteresso, within the parish of Fetteresso, Kincardineshire, Scotland.^[1]

In 1851, age 21, he was working as a Shoemaker and living with his widowed father Robert (age 53, Shoemaker) and siblings Robert (16, Shoemaker) and Isobel T (12) at Evan Street in the port of Stonehaven, within the parish of Fetteresso, Kincardineshire, Scotland.^[2]

On 10 Jun 1859, John (29, Shoemaker) married Margaret KINNIBURGH (25, Domestic Servant) at 19 West Princes Street, Glasgow.^[3] At the time the couple were living together at 25 Muse Lane [since renamed as Larbert Street], Cowcaddens.^[3]

In 1861, age 30, he was working as a Shoe Maker (Journeyman) and living with his wife Margaret (28) and son Archibald (1), at Kiln Close, High Street, Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.^[4]

In 1871, age 40, he was working as an Foundry Labourer and living with his wife Margaret (37) and children Archibald (11, Scholar), John Jnr (8, Scholar), Robert (6, Scholar), Alexander (4) and Janet M (1) at Eastside Street, Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.^[5]

In 1881, age 50, he was working as a Furnaceman and living with his wife Margaret (48) and children Robert (16, Apprentice Moulder), Alexander (14, Scholar), Janet (11, Scholar) and Arthur (8, Scholar) at 18 Kerr Street, Kirkintilloch, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.^[6]

In 1891, age 60, he was working as an Iron Foundry Labourer and living with his wife Margaret (58) and children John Jnr (28, Joiner), Alexander (24, Iron Moulder), Janet M (21, Dressmaker) and Arthur (18, Pawnbrokers Assistant) at Alexandra Parade, Dennistoun, Glasgow, Scotland.^[7]

In 1901, age 69 and an Annuitant, he lived at 22 James Orr Street, Dennistoun, Glasgow, Scotland with his wife Margaret (age 69, Annuitant), daughter Janet (30, Dressmaker) and son Arthur (28, Dispatch Clerk).^[8]
