The death date and Biography of this Jonathan is incorrect and belongs to Wood-10830. I have asked the manger of this profile to consider remove it in order to help the stop of this mis-information on Jonathan Wood who married Mary Titus.

Bertha Clark's resource "Rhode Island Woods on Long Island" has wrongly attributed this Jonathan as the son of William Wood from the Rhode Island Wood clan. My research into YDNA along with other matches to my husband's YDNA has proven that Jonathan Wood who married Mary Titus is from Timothy Wood (Wood-7196) of the Edmund Wood of Yorkshire England clan. Earlier researchers and studies of Bertha Clark's work has also known that her assessment of Jonathan Wood was incorrect but because it was published and spread, there's very little way to totally 'reel' it back.

Matthew Wood did extensive Wood research of the Long Island family back in the 1970s-90s and has several published journal articles in the NYG&B Record which sorts out a lot of the earlier misinformation on these early Wood Long Island families.

From his NYGBR article "The Descendant of Timothy Wood of Long Island" 2001 Volume 133 issue 1 page 39-45. "Unfortunately, Clark suggested another theory for the paternity of Jonathan Wood of Jamaica which was the most far-fetched of all. She wanted to make him a son of William Wood of Little Compton, Rhode Island. There is no evidence of this in the original records and it is chronologically almost impossible - William would have been thirteen when he became a father."

If you use Ancestry.com at all and you look at the family trees created by people who have Jonathan Wood and Mary Titus in their tree, many many people cite Bertha Clark and then run their family up the wrong pole (being the Rhode Island Wood's). Then you can also find many many people who run him up the right family branch, that being Timothy - Edmund.

With the advent of YDNA research now being used for genealogy, myself and a group of my husbands YDNA matches who have been working on our lines can 100% say that Johnathan Wood who married Mary Titus and all of their ancestors and descendants belong to the Edmund Wood of Halifax, Yorkshire England family that came via MA, CT and then Long Island, NY. They are haplogroup I-M253 which is not related genetically to the Wood Rhode Island family that bears haplogroup I-P37.

I removed Jonathan's mother. The source and bio both say that Jonathan was not the son of Martha but from a previous marriage/relationship.

I agree with Beryl. Also Jonathan's wife Margaret is showing as granddaughter of William and Martha Earle?? Totally messed up.
