James was born in 1822 in Illinois, United States.
Church Ordinance: Baptism in August, 1838 in Daviess County, Missouri, United States, officiated by Elijah H. Groves (Reference: LDS Biographical Encyclopedia. Jenson, Andrew. 1951, Vol. 2, page 742).
James was one of the martyrs of the church. He left his friends and family in Caldwell county, Missouri, January 15, 1839, for Illinois, to get a team with which to move his father's family out of the State of Missouri. As nothing was heard of him after his departure on that journey it is supposed that he was murdered by the mob on his way. (Reference: LDS Biographical Encyclopedia. Jenson, Andrew. 1951, Volume: 2 Page: 742)
