Maria was born in 1845. She was the daughter of Elijah Work and Margaret McCreery.
She married James A. Dodds. They had the following children:
James Stevenson Dodds 1876–1951
Edith Dodds (1879–1966), who married Frank Ernest Work (1877–1957).
