From the rootsweb tree as referenced below: " A marriage recorded 4 Aug 1761 at the Christ Lutheran Church in York Co, Pa states that Joseph, son of Abraham, married "Phebe M'Ray, daughter of Hugh (Juh.) Mecmeher". The original record was in the Dutch or German language and the transcriber suggested that the maiden name of Phebe might have been M'Meagher. [1]

Note: Appears in the list of recruits raised by Capt. Paul Jackson for the Pennsylvania Regiment, 02 Jun 1758: "Joseph Workman, laborer, 5 feet 8 inches tall, of Chester County, Pa., enlisted 06 May 1756 aged 21, born in New Jersey; of thin visage." (See Pensylvania Archives)
He is also listed with the men who returned in Capt. Charles Stewarts company, 05 Jun 1759, having enlisted this time 22 May 1759, aged 24 from Pennsylvania. He participated in the Revolution, enlisted Aug 1776 and is believed to be the progenitor of the family that settled in Boone County, West Virginia, inasmuch as he did not receive military land in Maryland (see later chapter) - Workman Book

He was married to Phoebe McRay/McMahon (1745-1826) in 1761 in York, PA. They had twelve children, per FamilySearch:

If he was born in Somerset County, New Jersey, in this time frame, his LNAB was assuredly not Workman -- it would have been Woertman or Wortman.
