Lawrence married Dessie Hite on 3 Nov 1915. Isaac Newton died in 1918 in a runaway buggy rollover, leaving Lawrence, Dessie and his mother, Eliza, to operate the farm. Lawrence and Dessie had 6 children (Ruth Maxine, Lawrence Russell, William Newton, Donna Madeline, Wilma Jean and Raymond Virgil.

Lawrence and Dessie operated the farm until the late 1960's, raising Jersey milk cattle and chickens, and grain and hay for the consumption of the livestock.
