June Term 1847

Evidently Nimrod was quite a "ladies" man for the day. There had been much debate about the martial status of each of his wives...with claims of him divorcing some on grounds of adultery. The opposite seems to be the truth, or in this case...truth is stranger than fiction. Apparently Nimrod was a bigamist and was married to three woman at the same time. His will of 1847 name "wife Rebecca", according to researcher Deborah Lunsford Yates, the following year, in 1848, a woman named Elizabeth in Buncombe County, NC filed a claim against his estate. I know that this is my line of Lunsfords and they were from the Buncombe/Cherokee area. Elizabeth was Elizabeth Wyatt...the "divorced" wife of Nimrod. Unfortunately, it seems the "sins of the father" were vested on the children for several generations and the pattern repeated. -- Beverly Hicks Burch 2004-04-16 Email Address:faith0102@bellsouth.net
