Biography

Richard Wyatt (aka Wiat) was the son of Geoffrey Wyatt (or Wiat) and Anna, daughter of Robert Wiat and and Jane Skipwith.[1] His date and place of birth is unknown and are estimates.

Richard married Margaret Bailiffe, daughter of William Bailiffe alias Clarke, of Southange, and they had at least one child.[1]

  • Sir Henry Wyatt, who married Anne Skinner[1][2]
  • possibly a Joan (aka Jone), sister of Sir Henry Wyat, married Robert Drakes[3]

The following information, taken from TudorPlace.com (unsourced online tree), has been copied to many online sources but remains unverified:

"A summary of fines included in the past Court Rolls was made in 1640. Unfortunately all are now lost except one covering the period 1440-1441 which remained the property of the Earl of Shrewsbury. There are three documents referring to Richard Wyot:
  1. Feudal aids for the Earl of Shrewsbury, referred to as ‘tenure in socage’. Assessment 2/- in £ or 10%
  2. In 1441 book: 'Beatrice, Wife of Richard Cutbushe, to Richard Wyot and Margaret his wife, third part of a bovet(?) of land in Hallam. Fine 2s.'
  3. The same Beatrice gave the aforesaid Richard Wiat and his wife Margaret the third part of a Bovet of Land in Hallam. Fine 18d."

Research Notes

No mention of Richard Wyatt/Wyat/Wiat/Wiot is found in the Complete Peerage, History of Parliament Online or the 1563/4 Visitation of Yorkshire.

Very little is known about Richard except that he is the father of Henry Wyatt. Any sourced additions to this biography would be appreciated.

is there any reason why this Richard and SIR Richard are not merged? Thank you for your consideration on this matter.
