In 1779 Gilbert White notes in his diary that he visited his two brothers at Lambeth where he "found BW lately a widower." After the death of Anne, in 1786, he married Mary, the widow of Rev. R Yalden (who died in 1785).He, as well as his brother Thomas, had retired to South Lambeth. In 1792 he left South Lambeth for his house 'Mareland' in Alton, Hampshire. When Gilbert died, Benjamin succeeded to the estatein Selborne. He died in Mar 1794 and is buried at Selborne.
