DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Harriet by comparing test results with other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Harriet:
Mike, I am a descendant of Meredith Yancey and Elizabeth Allen, through their son, Garland.
All records I've found only show 3 children, Harriet, Mary and Garland. I think this Henrietta was an error made on a letter written in 1950 to Mrs. Trewhella.
In this letter she says: Elizabeth Chambers Allen m. 1st Yancy Meredith Oct 23 1829 At least one child Henrietta Yancey.
I believe this was just an error on her part and that Henrietta was really Harriet who was born in 1831.
I also have a journal written by Garland's daughter, Sarah, and no mention of Henrietta is made there.
Meredith and Elizabeth had a marriage bond in October 1829 and married in November 1829, so it unlikely they would have had a child in 1829.
Further proof of this is the 1830 census where Meredith is found with in a household with only 2 free whites, which would have been he and his wife.
I suggest that we merge Henretta and Harriet. What are your thoughts?
