Biography

Alfred Yates married Harriet (Oswin) Yates on 28 Jul 1880 [1]

Alfred's death was reported in the Launceston newspaper, Examiner: "DEATHS. ... YATES.-On the 22nd July, at the General Hospital, Launceston, Alfred Edward, dearly beloved husband of Harriet Yates, of Fingal, in his 58th year. "Thy will be done" (North-West Coast papers please copy.)" [2]

The funeral notice read as follows: "FUNERALS. ... The friends of the late MR ALFRED EDWARD YATES (late of Fingal) are respectfully invited to follow his remains to the place of interment, Carr Villa Cemetery. The funeral is appointed to leave the General Hospital this (Tuesday) AFTERNOON, at 3 o'clock. — DOOLAN, Undertaker. Wellington and Balfour streets, 257 Charles-street. Telephone 290. [3]

Thanks were later advertised: "THANKS. ... Mrs. A. E. Yates and family, Fingal, wish to thank all kind friends for expressions of sympathy, letters, cards, and floral tributes; also doctors and nurses of the General Hospital for their kindness and attention in their recent sad bereavement." [4]

The cemetery records include the records for Harriet, and are recorded as follows: "At rest. In loving memory of Alfred Edward Yates died 22nd July 1917 aged 58 years. Also Harriet wife of the above died 16 Oct 1917 aged 57 years. Thy will be done." [5]
