Hi,

I was born in 1955 in New Orleans, Louisiana. I grew up in New Orleans and raised Catholic. My mother was born in 1925 at home with a midwife and baptized at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. Some of the same nuns that taught my mother in school also taught me.

My dad, Joseph Brantley Yates is deceased. He was born in 1917 in Coffee County, Alabama and raised in Florida near Panama City Beach. He was raised in First Assembly of God Church and converted to Catholicism before marrying my mother, Inez Theresa Burton. My dad served in WW11. I have three brothers, one is deceased.

Mom was one of five children. Two siblings (brothers) died very young before she was born. The other two (brother and sister) are deceased as well. Her sister was Irene Frances and her brother was Edward John.

My maternal grandparents are Amie Mary Heisser Burton and Edward John Burton. My great grandfather was Edward John Burthorn and married Victorine Virginia Rodriguez. The name was later changed to Burton at some point in time. My grandpa was a shipbuilder. He loved to garden. My grandma was an excellent cook. She was very talented with needlework such as crochet, knitting, embroidery, sewing, etc.

My paternal grandparents are Ida Mae Cardell Yates and James Alfred Yates. They are deceased. I did not know my paternal grandparents. They died before I was born. I knew two of my dad’s brothers. He was one of six boys. Two were deceased, one was killed in WW11 and the other died as a child. One brother lived in California and I only recall meeting him as a child once when he visited New Orleans. My grandpa farmed and was an elder in his church. My grandma was an excellent quilter. My dad had two of her quilts but they were destroyed in Hurricane Katrina at our home.

If you have any additional information I would love to make a connection.
