John was born in 1900, the son of Benjamin Young and Mary Fitzsimonds.[1] He appeared on the 1901 census (Potton) with his parents and siblings, even before his first birthday.[2]
John married Vera Elizabeth Bailey in 1930. They settled in Mansonville, where they had six children:

Robert Barclay, b. 6 Jan. 1934; m. Beatrice Clara Cote, 9 July 1955; d. 22 May 1993
John Edward, b. 17 Apr. 1936; d. 16 April 1961
Mary Elizabeth, b. 1940; d. 1940, and
Francis Frederick, b. 27 April 1941; m. Elaine Ruth Gatley, 3 April 1969; d. 30 May 2015.
