Springfield - Raymond Eugene "Gene" Adkins Jr., age 68, of Springfield, MO passed away at 9:35 a.m. on January 2, 2018. Gene graduated from Greenwood high school in 1967 and received degrees from Drury University and Missouri State University with an emphasis in Political Science and History. He worked at Meeks Lumber since the late 1970's and "retired" in 2015. In his youth, he was a longtime member of National Avenue Christian Church and was most recently a member of Nixa Christian Church. Gene was a Civil War and sports enthusiast, and acted as a volunteer soccer coach for many years. He was most passionate about genealogy and he dedicated years of research to the Adkins and Unger family trees. Gene was preceded in death by father Raymond Eugene Adkins Sr. and mother Dorothy Ruth Adkins (Unger). Gene is survived by his wife, Monica Sara Adkins; sister, Mary Fisher and husband John, niece Rachel Fisher; son Sam Adkins; son Peter Adkins and wife Jenie, granddaughters Ella and Sophia Adkins; step-son Michael Neal and wife Kelli, grandchildren Preston and Raelin Neal. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Brentwood Chapel. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 in the funeral home.

Also what David Lindsay (18th GG) did you mean?. When Gilber de Ghent of Lincolnshire Companion to William the C., third son Walter de Lindsey move to Scotland with David I, 1104, we of the LIndsay family have been naming sons David. Almot all of the three main lines have David's. Yes we were Flemish as were most of the landed families of eastern Scotland. Most of the histories of the non Highland Clans should have been rewiten from the latest research. Even you want-to-be -Highlanders. You recieved your earldom 60 years after ours in thanks for not rebelling agaist the Crown as did the Lindsay's, Douglas, and MacDonalds, the power houses of the day.
I too am a grand son of Sir (chose one--- Hierome, original name, later spelled Jerome as old Scots had no 'H'), Lindesay. His daughter Rachel married Lt. Col. Banard Lindsay of Kingswerk both of Leith Scotland. First son Robert afer parents death in epidemec, taken to Virginia by Rev. David Lindsay. First son of Lord Lyon by first marriage to Margret Covile.
I am heartbroken to read of Gene's loss. Gene and I explored our roots together (not always in agreement as to was the spouse of whom! LOL) and I'd gone to ask him a question when I found this sad news. I am so sorry that his family has to suffer the great grief of losing him.

I just found and adopted a duplicate Richard Martin Lord Mayor of London so have proposed a merge. The duplicate correctly links his daughter Dorcas with Sir Julius Caesar. I've also found quite a bit about his wife Dorcas which I've put on the Freestyle page I created for the family. I've written it as a profile so if you approve it can be cut and pasted into her profile Freespace page

Cousin, I'm thinking that you know the Crawford line better than I ever will. So I'm asking you to review the line, if you have time. Robin asked me to check the kids of Thor Longus but once I hit the 3rd generation, it started to look like it's going to take hours to figure out. Particularly... do you think the ancestors and kids of John Crawford PPP make sense? ... Is he a duplicate of John Crawford (living 1140)? ... I think the family should review the line in general. We were talking about it on G2G here.
