C’est en 1667 qu’Antoine Pécaudy de Contrecœur, capitaine du régiment de Carignan-Salières, fonde dans ces lieux un établissement. En 1672, il reçoit cette seigneurie du roi de France. La paroisse religieuse Sainte-Trinité de Contrecœur est érigée canoniquement en novembre 1832.
