Hi Laura

We are delighted to announce a new Profile Improvements Team namely the England Tangled Families Team which will be formed by merging the Arborists, Gedcoms and Unknown Teams,

As we know tangled families are created from old GEDCOM’s which cover many generations resulting in the need to merge profiles and having to disconnect others together with finding unknown spouses and family members.

The merging of the existing three teams into one exciting new team will hopefully reduce duplications and definitely will increase collaboration between you our experienced and dedicated members.

Team Leader for the England Tangled Families Team will be Fran Weidman who has agreed to manage the team bringing her excellent knowledge and experience from creating and managing the Unknowns Team together with Fran’s five year membership of the England Project.

Currently as a member of one or more of the named teams we are asking you to join our new amalgamated Tangled Families Team and letting us know by contacting Joan Williams or Malc Rowlands through Discord Messaging, England Project Google Group or Private WT Message if you want to join our new team.

Kind regards

Joan and Malc

Hi Laura,

It’s time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:

  • If you are happy with the team you’re on or if you’d like to make a change. It is now required that all members with an Ireland project badge work on at least one of the project’s team(s), so if you’ve not yet signed up please do so in your reply to this check-in.
  • What you think the project is doing well, and what (if any) changes you would like to see us make? Are there any teams you would like to become more active in?
  • Would you be interested in helping to work on an Ireland Project newsletter?
  • Please give us some feedback on the use of google group and discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way for us to ensure you receive project communications? If you would like to join us on either one, just let us know in your response and we will get you signed up.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Jen Hutton, on behalf of the Ireland Project

Hi Laura, it appears you have recently created a number of cemetery categories without adding any parent categories, so the categories are not linked to the category structure.

Could you review this list, and add the required parent categories to the categories you created. Cemetery categories have 2 parent categories, see this one as an example.

Thanks for your help, regards, Margaret, Categorization project volunteer.

Hi, we don't have a category for Am. Rev project members. Please remove it from your page and use Category:Military and War Project Members.

Laura,

I have been working on Richard Preece-70 GEDcom generated profile. I have identified records for his birth, marriage and death. I have run into a glitch that I need help with. I was trying to verify his marriage record on Free BMD. I located the record that coincides with FS source on Evoy Flavell-31; however, I cannot locate the record for her on Free BMD or on England PRO. I decide to search using the Volume and Page search fields to see who else was on that page. This is what I found: FreeBMD Surname First name(s) District Vol Page Quarter PREECE Richard William Dudley 6c 41 Dec 1858 Harel Eva Dudley 6c 41 Dec 1858 Hasel Eva Dudley 6c 41 Dec 1858

Eva Flavel is the name on the FS marriage record. Is it possible/probable that transcribers misread the Fl as an H? Her father’s profile is Flavell-32 and grandfather is Flavill/Flavell-33. Any help/guidance will be appreciated.

Elaine Walling-681

Elaine, I think you are right that this was a mis-transcription. A research note is probably in order.

Take care and stay safe!

OK...I put a Research Note on both profiles with sources. If you don't mind taking a look at those research notes. Preece-70 and Flavell-31

Richard became a widower at 27 so in all probability he remarried. I have a good candidate but can't prove it. Here's what I have Free BMD Marriages Mar 1874 Preece Richard Dudley 6c 83 Wilding Jane Dudley 6c 83

Family Search Name: Richard Preece Sex: Male Spouse's Name: Jane Wilking or Davies

Spouse's Sex: Female Marriage Date: 9 Feb 1874 Marriage Place: Saint Thomas's Church, Dudley, Worcestershire, England, United Kingdom Marriage Place (Original): Saint Thomas, Dudley, Worcester, England This is the same place he married his first wife. Opinion?

Thanks Elaine

Hi Laura,

Michael, thanks for the check-in. I'm very happy with where I'm at team-wise. I'm the GEDcom team leader and West Midlands RC. I will also start working as a OT1 Trailblazer once I get my feet a bit more under me with the West Midlands team and finish up the OT3 profile I'm working on.

As far as the EP at large, I suppose my schtick at the moment is making sure people remove the GEDcom text when they work on/complete a profile on the GEDcom reports. I recently spent around 20 or so hours (not all at once ;P ) reviewing the English profiles on the Barron GEDcom report. Approximately 20 to 30 percent of the profiles on the report had been sourced and/or completed but were still on the report because the "this profile was created xx date as part of the Barron GEDcom upload" text was not removed. And that's just one GEDcom report; if I remember right, there are over 200 GEDcoms on the Wikitree GEDcom report list.

Take care and stay safe!

Hey Laura,

I saw you added the England Project Needs Biography category to a couple of profiles, and I just wanted to let you know that we are in the process of migrating all the individual profiles out of that category and into their respective county profiles; they all should have their own now, so if you can nest profiles that need biographies in the correct county needs biography category, that would be incredibly helpful.

Hi Laura,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Joan, Amy & Lizzie.

Glad to hear from you! To answer your question: I am currently working on OT2, but have gotten a bit distracted with the GEDcom team Oct-Nov list of profiles to work on. I have completed several and am working on finishing others. I also worked on The Yorkshire Witch and her victim, Rebecca Perigo. I still have not had any luck connecting the Witch, though.

I really enjoyed the October challenge-and being able to talk with other team members on Discord was a great help. They give a lot of suppport in addition to research assistance.

I would like to stay on the GEDcom team, and will focus more on completing OT2 the next few weeks. I would like to join the connections team at some point. I haven't decided what county team I would like to join; as I have so many English ancestors from all over England, I'm having a hard time picking one county.

Take care and stay safe!

Hi Laura, in looking at my tree I see where William A. Daniel is your 4th great-grandfather. He is also my great-uncle. He was born in Jackson County, Alabama in 1818 and he and his wife and son went to Missouri in 1843. He had several children there in Missouri, so you have a lot of relatives. He is a brother to James Daniel, my great grandfather, who lived and died here in Alabama. Their mother is a full blooded Cherokee. She and their father, John H. Daniel, came to Alabama in abt 1817 from Georgia and I am still looking for them. I am on Ancestry and if you would like an invite to my tree just let me know. I have a lot info on your family.

I looked at it and it looks to be consistent with the other information in the profile, and contributes as a source with visual verification of the gravestone. So I have restored it for now -- could you explain why you deleted it and we can consider whether it is appropriate to remove it. Thanks! Tom

Hi Laura,

Welcome to Wikitree. I saw your name in a recent wikitree feed showing that you had German Roots, too.

When, I ran your name in the “Relationship finder” in the tools menu & found something that may be of interest to you:

We share a common German ancestor: Philip (Hohenstaufen-1) Schwaben (1177 - 1208) wikitree Id: Hohenstaufen-1. He's your 26th g-grandfather and my 24th. We also share more than 32 other ancestors.

Be sure to try the relationship finder when you visit my profile page & explore all the new branches of your ancestry. You can verify each person and their relationship when you can click on the links to their profiles.

Always make sure to select "SEARCH 30 GENERATIONS" when you use the generation finder. We share more than 30 ancestors. Have fun, cousin!

Dear Laura

Could you please be careful when creating pre 1700 profiles as they may already exist. I have started the merge process for the Poyntz duplicate profiles. Also, using created trees are not acceptable sources. Even if they do have sources attached they are often incorrect and you need to check each one to confirm it relates to the right person. If you are interested in early English profiles you should look at the England Project who can help with researching and sources for these profiles.

Laura -

Please note that Find A Grave memorials are generally not accepted sources for pre-1700 profiles. (See pre-1700 self-certification quiz, question 7). Also, it would have been necessary to communicate with the European Aristocrats project before creating profiles such as Brabantine_de_Nassau-1 as they would have known that a profile already existed. They can also advise you about how to fill the name fields. Thank you,

Isabelle

Welcome to the Quakers Project! Please visit the project page and consider joining the Google discussion group.

It would be good to add the "quakers" tag to your list of followed tags in order to be alerted to G2G conversations on the topic. Thank you!

Thanks Laura for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz

Because Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects coordinating them is essential. Please ensure location data matches date of profile and avoid abbreviations. Add citations & links for sources enable verification of data please. From the wiki ID go to Research to find sources to add.

Thanks for joining some projects, great to see your enthusiasm. You might like to add some of the location tags for the areas are interested in. For help with tags, click editing your tags to edit, please delete old tag, Thank you
