Biography

Born in Lake County, Ohio, in 1974. Grew up in Mansfield, Ohio, and graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1992. Graduated with a B.A. from Bowling Green State University in 1996. Also studied various subjects at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and at Strayer University between 1999-2012. Co-Administrator at the Grant DNA Project (http://www.familytreedna.com/public/GRANT). Musician and composer. Currently resides in Wilmington, NC.

I am here because I feel wikitree is a great opportunity to fix the various genealogical mistakes that run unchecked on the internet, and my hope is that this can be a one-stop source for accurate and proven ancestral information for my own and all other families that have a story to tell. My greatest hope is to one day uncover the parents of Matthew Grant and his deeper ancestry.

Hi Geoff

It's time for a One Name Studies Project check-in!

Could you please advise me which One Name Studies you're still actively coordinating, i.e. maintaining the main study page and associated research pages, and replying to queries/comments from members.

You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. I look forward to hearing from you!

If I don’t receive your response within the next three weeks, I’ll assume that your interests have changed or you are no longer able to coordinate any One Name Studies, and you'll be removed from the project.

Regards

Jacqueline Baxter, ONS Project Co-Leader

Research Asst. would be my best fit. I've studied history on and off for 30 years and am the son of a historian, so maybe it's in my blood. I'm not as active on wikitree as I would like to be, but I'm always happy to help with anything that leads to accurate and reliable information being used on this site!!

Cheers!

Hi Geoff

I sent you a check-in message a week ago about the Military and War Project to ask you about your continued involvement but have not yet heard back from you. Do you still want to be in the project? If I don’t hear from you by the same time next week I’ll assume that you’ve moved on to other things but you’re most welcome to re-join the project at any time.

Best wishes,

Mary~ Project Coordinator, Military and War Project

Hi Geoff,

It's time for a 1776 Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know if you want to continue as a member of the project. We'd like to know:

  • If you are on the right team or if you'd like to make a change. It's a requirement that every 1776 Project member is a part of one of the project's teams, so if you're not assigned to a team, let us know which team you'd like to join.
  • What you think the project is doing well, and what changes you'd like to see us make?

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the 1776 Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back.

Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Hello,

I am checking in on behalf of the 1776 Project to announce the new project membership requirements and to verify that you are still interested in being a member of the project. All project members are being asked to join one of the project teams and also to make at least one project contribution every 6 months. We are also asking all project members to join the project's Google Group for project communications.

If you are interested in remaining with the Project, please reply to this comment or send me a message, request to join the Google Group, and let us know what team you would like to participate on.

We really appreciate your contributions on WikiTree, and thank you for all your hard work. If you have any questions, please ask. We would also love to hear any feedback you may have for the project.

If we don't hear back from you we will assume that you no longer wish to participate in the project and if so, you could rejoin at any time as is convenient for you.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

"This William's DNA is known and is part of the Grant DNA Project. His father remains unknown, but male descendants do live to this day. The family is confirmed as a distant branch of the Clan Grant via a younger son of one of the Clan's Chiefs dating back to the 1400's." Grant-1560 I am this living descendant Grant DNA project kit #82582. I would like to find this missing link in our ancestry where I don't agree the Archibald Jr was William's father.

Hello, Geoff,

On behalf of the Military and War Project Leaders, we are doing a six-month check-in with members.

First, we want to thank you for your past participation in the project. We appreciate your desire to honor your ancestors for their service to their countries, or even for your service, wherever in the world. We hope that your membership has enhanced your WikiTree experience.

Please let me know, by commenting on my profile or sending a private message, if you are still active in the project, and if so, in a general sense how you may have contributed to the main project or any sub-projects within the last couple months.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Geoff

Yes I’m connected to this Grant family but in a interesting historic way I believe. Samuel Grant married my Great great grandma Matilda Ronger (Grant) Simpier and had a child a son Edward Ronger Grant. The father Samuel Grant died tragically in the civil war and Matilda remarried as a widow my Great Great Grandpa Joseph Simpier (Also a civil war veteran) so we have shared blood in a very unique way as if Samuel never died in the civil war I guess you could say we all wouldn’t exist lol.

So nice to meet you. I am working on this mystery Samuel Grant my Simpier’s have talked often about.

We are blood connected as distant cousins to Matthew Grant

Not sure our DNA would match but possible as I’m related by blood to Matthew Grant but it’s very distant

Kindest regards Andrew

One source is my great great grandparents marriage record shows widow Matilda Grant marrying Joseph Simpier https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/13180614?h=e2b514

Also Edward Ronger Grant has his birth showing parents as Samuel Grant and Matilda Ronger but still working on his profile as it was just created

Here is my relation to Matthew Grant on my maternal side

Matthew is the 11th great grandfather of Andrew

1. Andrew is the son of [private mother] [confident] 2. [Private] is the daughter of James Elwood Gibbs Sr [confident] 3. James is the son of Lottie Pearl (Barrett) Gibbs [confident] 4. Lottie is the daughter of Evalina Nora Barrett [confident] 5. Evalina is the daughter of Charlotte Ellinor Barrett [confident] 6. Charlotte is the daughter of Sarah L (Miller) Barrett [confident] 7. Sarah is the daughter of Deodatus Miller [confident] 8. Deodatus is the son of Affia (Hillyer) Miller [confident] 9. Affia is the daughter of Mary Eno (Humphrey) Hillyer [confident] 10. Mary is the daughter of Samuel Humphrey [confident] 11. Samuel is the son of John Humphrey [unknown confidence] 12. John is the son of Priscilla (Grant) Humphrey [confident] 13. Priscilla is the daughter of Matthew Grant [confident] This makes Matthew the 11th great grandfather of Andrew.
