Elizabeth was born about 1867 in Iowa. <ref> 1870 United States census.</ref> Elizabeth married Thomas Gilbert on 30 September 1883, when she was 16 years old. Her father, John, consented to the marriage. The wedding was held at her father's home in Decatur County, Iowa. The ceremony was performed by Elder Lewis M. Cob. She was born in Leon, Ia., Aug. 12, 1867, and was married to Thomas S. Gilbert who died Oct. 1, 1936. She was a member of the First Christian church and spent most of her life in Ft. Madison. Surviving are 6 daughters, Mrs. M.E. Shell and Mrs. Walter Liddle of Ft. Madison, MRs. W.T.
