Biography

  • 1930: Edwin was born on the 1st March 1930, the second child and first surviving child of Edwin Jones and Marjorie Galliher at the Municipal Hospital in Tampa, Florida [1] and was baptised at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Tampa on 30 March, 1930 [2]
  • 1935-1948: Between 1930 and 1935 his family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and at the time of the 1940 census they had been living in the same residence since 1935. [3]
  • 1948-1953: In 1948 Ed joined the US Marine Corps and went through basic training at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, California.[4] When the Korean War broke out he had the option of going with his unit to Korea or remaining in the US. He decided to remain in the US but when President Harry Truman extended all enlistments by 12 months he was then sent to Korea. He was present at the Inchon Landing and the retreat from the Chosin Reservoir and finally was captured by the North Korean forces.[5] They were marched north to the border with China on the Yalu River and he spent the rest of the war as a POW in Camp 3 at Ch'ang-Song. He was released by the North Koreans in 1953.
  • 1953-1954: On 20 November Edwin married Jean Bohannon in Greenville, Mississippi.[6] The marriage was short-lived and Jean divorced him in her home town of Louisville, Kentucky on 17 Nov 1954. They had a daughter, who was raised by her mother and grandparents.
  • 1954-1959: Edwin returned to his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he married Patricia Ann Welsh on 02 June 1956 at Boston Avenue Methodist Church.[7] Ed and Pat had one child, a daughter Leslie Ann Adamson. Eventually Ed and Pat divorced on 11 Feb 1959 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
  • 1959-1961: During this period Edwin is still living in Tulsa, Oklahoma and marries Jeanne Ann Billingsley in Miami, Ottawa County, Oklahoma on 5th July 1960. This is an extremely short marriage and they divorced on 24th July 1961 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.[8]
  • 1961-1964: Edwin continues to live in Tulsa and marries once more on 20 June 1963. This marriage is to Veda Mae Rhodes and takes place in Muskogee, Oklahoma.[9] This is another short-lived marriage and they divorced on 21 September 1964.
  • 1964-1974: Edwin decides to remain a bachelor for the next 10 years until he marries Rosemary Tissott in Tulsa, Oklahoma on 8th November 1974.[10]

Tissott-1 Rosemary (Tissott) Jones
Truda, I have very little information on Joseph Jones b. 1834 and only have the 1850 and 1860 census data. He may be a different line of Jones than that of my late husband being that he's the brother-in-law of the 3rd great-uncle of Edwin Burwell Jones III. If you send me a PM I'll send you a relationship chart by email which may be of some help.

It's a long while since I worked on this tree and it's quite possible that there are errors in this section of it.
