These days I spend most of my time doing genetic genealogy, blogging, speaking, and helping people with their DNA results. I come to this from a programming background. My paternal ancestry is Norwegian from Hordaland, Kristiansand, and the Drammen area plus Telemark. My maternal ancestry is Bavarian and German Jewish.

I recently retired from my web development business, Open Sky Web Design, which I founded in 2001 shortly after retiring early from corporate life in NYC. I now live in the San Diego area and have avocado trees and citrus and a view. I have been doing genealogy since 1997 - see my family history site - and genetic genealogy since 2012 - see my blog

My biography to date is posted on my genealogy blog as well as on my Bridge Teaching site.

Just stopping by to say hello!

Relationship finder believes we are 22nd cousins 4x removed through Olaf I (Guðrøðarson) Gudrødsen.

Hi Kitty,

I checked the relationship finder and we're 26th cousins:) We are both descended from Arpadhazi-5 Thanks for all your research! I hope to get DNA testing soon.

Hello Kitty

It looks like we may be 20th cousins 5 times removed through Olaf II (Guðrøðarson) [Gudrodsson-3] who probably didn’t exist or so his profile biography said. Seems like an pretty uncertain relationship to me. It seems to me that I have a lot of uncertain relationships with an amazing variety of people. Otherwise 25 degrees of separation.

Hi Cousin!

We're 23 Degrees apart, but we're also 24th cousins once removed ... through Henry 1, King of England! He's a new-to-me ancestor & (ashamed to say it), a new-to-me historical person too.* But I do love what I learn from WikiTree. Loved your interview too, especially the pictures!

Cheers, Liz

* nope, not quite new to me... just didn't recognize him out of context (4th son of William, father of Matilda - as a Brother Cadfael fan, I certainly know all about King Stephen and Empress Maud! I'm going to have fun exploring that connection :)

Hi Kitty

I love your Blog. Thanks for everything you do. I was wondering if you can tell me how you have so many DNA matches on this page. Were they just the ones you entered yourself or could you add a link to cousins you know you match dna with on here somehow?

Hi! I invite you to tag any Tryon records you maintain so they may be listed in the Tryon Name Study.

We actually have three categories - one for the Americas, one for England, and one catch-all.

You can find these linked from my profile.

If you have any questions - don't hesitate to ask!

Welcome to our community, Kitty, and thank you for volunteering to help us grow our worldwide family tree. I hope your experience as a member of the WikiTree community will be very pleasant and productive.

You obviously already know the following, but I'll include it, anyway, because of the essential part about places and dates in order to identify duplicates:

VERY IMPORTANT: The more documents, sources, dates, and locations you provide on the profiles you create, the stronger your branches and our mutual global tree will be. If you don't know the correct date, please estimate using before or after.

I think we have a blogger badge. You're already accumulating quite a few badges.

Hope you enjoy WikiTree! :)

I have been researching my family's history and genealogy since 1997. I am all American but by recent ancestry: half Norwegian and half Bavarian German (the German side is half jewish and half catholic and came to the USA in 1935 for obvious reasons). My family history is posted at

Last year I tested my DNA and became fascinated by genetic genealogy and started blogging about it at and getting all my relatives to test!
