At the age of 12 he had an accident and lost his right foot. This accident change his live as it was not so easy in the 1940 to get handicapped. Also the society was not so forgiving. He tried in 1950 to apply for an education as a teacher but his handicap did so he was not welcome. After that he started at SJ - the Swedish Railway company in Västerås. He started in 1952 working at SJ travel agency in Västerås and in 1958 he was asked to move to Gävle to take care of a new travel agency Andersson and Lundquist. He stayed as the director for this travel agency until he retired and the travel agency expanded with offices in Sandviken, Sundsvall.
During this period Carl-Eric was the manager of A&L Resebyrå and expanded the business to Sandviken, Sundsvall. In 1976 when Magnus was going to start in high school(swedish gymnasiet) they moved to Höjersdal.

Mona and Carl-Eric separated (but still married) in 1982 and since 1984 he lived together with Birgit until she died in 2010. In 1984 he also bought a house north Hedesunda on Färnebovägen() where he and Birgit spent most of the time. He had an apartment in Gävle on Byggmästargatan.
