Rebecca was born about 1821 in Dartford, Kent, England[1][2][3][4][5] the daughter of Edward Saunders[6].

On the 8th April 1844, Rebecca married William Rufus at Dartford, Kent, England. William Rufus, bachelor, Iron Founder, son of William Rufus (Iron Founder) & Rebecca Saunders, spinster, daughter of Edward Saunders (labourer). Witnessed by James Copisland? Banks & Mary Ruffus[6]

Rebecca died aged 76 years (b. 1821) on the 18th November 1897 at 29 Eton Street, Plumstead, Kent, England of chronic bronchitis. Informant: W. Rufus (son) present at death[7] and was buried on the 25th November 1897 at St. Margaret, Plumstead, Kent, England[8]

Searched Original Dartford Baptisms 1815-1827 (pg36-98 City Ark). Register 1813-1843 appears to be covered in Vital Record Index - Baptisms of Rebecca and sister Esther not found.

Searched Non-Conformist Register indexes on Ancestry - No children of Edward & Jane baptised.

Rebecca's parents have been determined by the fact that she consistently gave her birth place as Dartford, and named her father as Edward Saunders on her marriage. There was only one Edward Saunders living in Dartford, and he was married to his wife Jane prior to Rebecca's birth, so it is assumed Jane would be Rebecca's mother.

Also Jane Saunders was living with daughter Esther Tagg nee Saunders in 1851. Autosomal DNA matches to descendants of Esther Tagg nee Saunders suggest that Esther is Rebecca's sister and therefore Jane is Rebecca's mother.
