Surname/tag: Sources
The goal of this project is to bring together various sources and other useful information for myself. If others find the page useful, it would make me happy.
Right now this project just has one member, me. I am Lynden Rodriguez.
Please post a comment here on this page, in G2G using the project tag, or send me a private message. Thanks!

- Advanced Sourcing
- < ref name="birth certificate">Birth Certificate of George Russell Beebe, Registration 398-5554-428 (1920), Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services - Bureau of Vital Records, Personal copy in the files of Barbara Beebe </ref>Β
In all following references you can just use this:Β
- < ref name="birth certificate" />Β
- When viewing a Wikipedia article, click the "Cite this page" link under Tools in the left sidebar. This shows seven different citation styles, and references the current revision. Choose the Chicago style based on this note at Sources_Style_Guide#.22Evidence_Explained.22_Styling
- "On WikiTree the preferred style is the Evidence Explained format[1], based on the Chicago Manual of Style (CMoS)."
- Guess what I learned for sourcing footnotes!
- I learned that I can pretype my footnotes ahead of time!
- After my source I HIDE a footnote and I can just copy and paste where I need it to go. Quick and Easy!
- For example:
- S34. Dollar & Sons newspaper ad
- "The Mexia Daily News," digital image, Newspaper.com (Https://www.newspapers.com/clip/1123547/the_mexia_daily_news/ : accessed 07 Oct 2014) Dollar & Sons newspaper ad, Mexia, Texas, United States; citing The Mexia Daily News, 04 Nov 1969, page 06, clipped by tia_rutledge.
- (see the at the beginning and the end?) I was taught that yesterday and I have been using the heck out if. I even use in my tables.
- || This is where a name would go.

Quakers Amish & Mennonites
- Ship arrivals for Maryland 1652 (G2G) The 1650's were a time of persecution of Quakers in Virginia. There were large numbers of Quakers in Virginia and many boats dropped people off on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and the area now called the northern neck which is where Lancaster County is. Maryland passed the Religious Tolerance Act in 1649 to encourage more people to come to Maryland and many Quakers did that even though they were dropped in these remote Virginia areas where the Quaker communities were. By 1660, most Quakers had left for Maryland.

G2G Discussion: How to Type German Umlauts
- -> To get German umlaute on an American PC do the following:
- β’ Number Lock should be ON
- β’ Use the left-side ALT key (for most keyboards; try the right if it doesnβt work)
- β’ Hold down the ALT key and type a number on the number pad as follows (while holding the ALT key down). When you release the ALT key, you will have the following character:
- ALT 0223 = Γ
- ALT 0228 = Γ€
- ALT 0246 = ΓΆ
- ALT 0252 = ΓΌ
- ALT 0196 = Γ
- ALT 0214 = Γ

Profiles
- π© Adding Links
- Most of us know that we can create a bullet list in a profile by using * as the first character on a line. We can also create a numbered list by using # as the first character.
- What may not be obvious at first glance is that the same method works for a footnote. This can be useful when the same source, but different pages, is used. For example the birth is on one page and the death is a second page.
- The profile for Lydia (Nichols) Closson and several items from the James E. Hazard Index is an example of this technique. As Lydia's name is spelled various ways it is valuable to show the complete entry.
- WikiTree profile: Lydia Closson
- You can actually do anything in the citation (what is in between the [ref] and [/ref] tags) that you can do in the bio itself. When I have source documents that I want to include, instead of lining them all up on the right side by adding the images to the profile, I add the images to a free space page I created just to store image files that I use elsewhere on profiles. I then use the image template in the footnote by putting it after the citation itself
