I am an acupuncture physician and herbal apothecary. I love to travel. I did an Oriental Medicine residency in China. I also am a researcher. I truly enjoy discovering information about my ancestors. I am an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. I am also a lifetime member of the Jamestowne Society.

I have a goal to credit my Revolutionary War era ancestors with DAR service. My DAR membership number is 913898. Currently I have nine lineages proven to DAR standards:

Jacob Barkley

Andrew Gohn

Hans Bernhard Hauer

James McKemy

Joseph Wells

Daniel Freeman

John Wells

Robert Hardesty

John Jackson

These are the Revolutionary War era ancestors that I am working on specific challenges to prove the lineage:

William Jackson -

  • He was living, unfortunately a bit too elderly to serve...

William Rhoads

  • There were 3 William Rhoads/Rhodes/Rodes's that served with the Hillsborough Militia in North Carolina. He was surely one of these men. Which one?

Oliver McCashland

  • He paid Loudoun County VA tax.... His service and residence are good. The lineage needs a little bit of work.

Jacob Wine

  • Possibly fought in York County, Pennsylvania or Frederick County, Virginia

John Hines

  • He may have fought in the Virginia 3rd under Reuben Briscoe. I haven't been able to find proof of residence yet.

Enoch Butler -

  • He fought for Chester Co, PA militia and also paid tax. The lineage needs a little work.

George Grant

  • He served with the Virginia 8th out of Fauquier Co, VA.... but was HE the correct father of Evan Grant?

Vincent Lake -

  • He paid Virginia Supply Tax in Fauquier Co, VA. Same lineage issue as Grant and McCashland.

Rosannah Stuart McIlhaney

  • Might have done something. (?) Son john McIlhaney was credited with the 1783 Supply Tax payment.

I am also working on creating family trees for my Swiss ancestors and their ancillary community. I am combing the Schaffhausen Archives church books for details and trying to get as much information sourced and linked into the wikitree as I can. The Swiss part of my tree starts with Verena Ehrmann. For Swiss researchers, here is a link to the Schaffhausen Church Books: https://mobile.cmistar.ch/webclients-r20/shstaatsarchiv/#/

Thank you for updating John Leininger's family! John was my 3rd great-grandpa. Salome was my 3rd great-grandma. Their son Philip Henry "Hank" is where I am descended from. :)

Hi Kat-

My Dad's first cousin was married to a Leininger descendant and there were a few Bollenbacher (my paternal grandma) marriages to Leiningers. It seems that every time I put one of the Leiningers into the tree, my CC7 goes up.

I grew up on a farm in Mercer County, Ohio. Sam and Lela Leininger were my next door neighbors as a child. I did not know that my dad's first cousin's wife, Verna Pifer Behm, was their niece. It's so cool to see how all these families intermarried over the course of 150 years.

posted by Beth Stephenson
I found distant Leininger cousins for me out in Valley City, ND. Also I went to a Leininger Family Reunion in Fargo, ND once. The man who invited me was also from this same line and had the name, John. So many John Leiningers. xD

I do like finding all the intermarriages of my families. Do you also go on a connection spree when you see a familiar name, just to find if they connect back in?

posted by Kat Smith
Ha !!! YES!!! This was kind of a Leininger spree. Someone actually just emailed me about John's second wife, Sarah Pratt, wanting to know why I ignored her family with her first husband.... Because I was on a Leininger connection spree. LOL

Hi Beth,

Betty Norman is away this week. Robert Hess https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hess-7248 has been added to the Profile Improvement Team for 1776. His name and info is added to the Team page.

Here is his info: " I have at least two ancestors who participated in the American Revolutionary War as soldiers on the colonies side and two other ancestors who were Hessian mercenaries, who stayed in the United States after the war. I am particularly interested in the interplay between these two opposing groups as they went on to marry and make history in the United States. "/

Thanks

Hi Beth. According to Wikitree we are 15 cousins through the Edwards line (ca 1500s) in colonial Virginia. Elizabeth Edwards married my first American born ancestor, John Stevenson in Isle of Wight, VA across the James river from Jamestown. I checked the Stephensons in your profile on Gedmatch but had no luck on matches. My Gedmatch kit is EM5865720 if you want to try your luck. I am a direct descendant of John Stevenson, Isle of Wight and Williamsburg, VA (1656-1727) both through paper trail and genetic testing of a known descendent from his son, Soloman Stevenson Sr. I am also a member of the Va colonial project. My aim has been to identify John’s country of origin beyond simply British Isles so curious as to where your Stephensons may have arose across the pond? Thanks cousin
