Emma Caroline Unterrheiner was the daughter of Adam Unterrheiner and Barbara Borger and was born on 7 August 1874[1] at the old homestead on Bowraville, Macksville road, where her parents, settled in the early days of the history of the Nambucca[2].
In 1899 at Bowraville, when 24 years of age, Emma married Thomas Clarkson Cook.[3][4]
Emma and Thomas lived on a farm near Macksville and had 6 children, consisting of two sons and four daughters. They are: Mrs. Lyall Best (Tuncurry), Mrs. A. J. Jarrett and Mrs R. D. Walsh (Merewether, Newcastle), Mrs. W. Simpson (Bowraville), Mr. Geoffrey Cook (Bowraville), and Mr. Thomas Cook. At the time of Emma's passing there were 19 grandchildren.[2]
Emma died on 26 July 1945[5], at Bowraville, NSW, near her brother's home. Emma had just rowed across the river to her brother's home to deliver a parcel when she collapsed as she was returning to the boat.[2]
Emma was buried on 27 July 1945 at Macksville Cemetery, in the Roman Catholic Section. [6][7]
