[Former Governor of Virginia] Col William Fleming and his wife are buried on a knoll overlooking the remains of his mansion house, Bell Mont, which stands in the Monterey Golf Course. On June 5 1925 (Roanoke County Deed Book 148 page 467) Frank W Read conveyed.148 acres of land to the First National Exchange Bank, Trustee for the Fleming burial site. This was to be looked over by the Nancy Christian Fleming Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR Chapter restored the grave site, erecting a rock fence around it and adding an idenifying plaque.
