According to Jonathan Curtin, "It must be Father Devlin who was the pastor at St.Patrick’s in Chateaugay. I don’t know which years he was there. The parish received its first priest in 1863 and a ‘book’ of its own. The first priest was a Father DePauw from Belgium. He was there for at least 30 years and would have been the priest for the later part of Sarah’s time in Chateaugay. He returned to Belgium when he retired. The circuit riding priests came from St.joseph’s in Malone in the 1850s and before that from the Hogansburg Indian Reservation. The rectory burned in Malone in about 1855 and those records were lost. Father Devlin must have been in Chateaugay after Father DePauw. I would guess before Watertown because that would have been a larger parish."
