Biography
Rosie (Rose) Ann Čapek was born July 23, 1902 on 311 East 71st Street in Manhattan, New York City, New York. She was the daughter of Joseph Capek and Antonie (Prochazka) Capek who were both immigrants from Bohemia and aged 27 at the time of her birth. Her father was working as a carpenter and she was their first child.[1][2]
She had a younger brother, Joseph Frank Čapek, born on March 3, 1904, who would only live for a week. At this time they were living at 428 E. 73rd Street in Manhattan. Her little sister, Antonia Čapek, was born at the same address on April 28, 1905.
In the 1905 New York State Census, Rosie, age 3, was enumerated in the household of her father, Joseph Capek, on East 73rd Street in Manhattan Borough, New York, New York. She was living with both of her parents and infant sister. Her father was working as a carpenter.[3]

Her mother was widowed and working as a laundress out of her home. Also living with them was her little sister and a boarder. Rose had attended school within the census year.[4]

According to family lore, her mother was told by a doctor that if she wanted Rosie to be healthy and live then they would need to get out of New York City.[5]
Her mother married Leo John Frantel about 1914 and they moved to Elmira, Chemung, New York where he had obtained a job as a cooper at a brewery.[5] It is unknown if they married before moving or after. At this point, Rose changed her last name to Frantel/Frantl.
