Přemysl Otakar's birth place and date are unknown and dated at different times by various authors: Charles Cawley in Medieval Lands gives before 1170;[1] Neue Deutsche Biographie 1160/65;[2] 1155 Jacek Hertel;[3] 1160 Martin Wihoda;[4] and 1165-1167 Josef Žemlička.[5]
Přemysl Otakar was married twice, in 1178 with Adelheid von Meißen whom he rejected in 1198. That same year he married Árpádházi Konstancia.[2]
He bacame Margrave of Moravia in 1179 and briefly Duke of Bohemia 1192/93. Due to advantageous political maneuvering in the conflict between Staufen and the Welfs he regained the duchy in 1197 and in 1198 was made hereditary king of Bohemia by Philipp von Schwaben as rewad for his support.[2]
He died in 1230, presumably in Prague.[2]
