Vladimir Vladimirovich Nabokov (/nəˈbɒkəf, -ˈbɔː-/;[1] Russian: Влади́мир Влади́мирович Набо́ков [vɫɐˈdʲimʲɪr nɐˈbokəf] (About this soundlisten), also known by the pen name Vladimir Sirin (Russian: Влади́мир Си́рин); 22 April [O.S. 10 April] 1899[a] – 2 July 1977) was a Russian-born novelist, poet, translator and entomologist. His first nine novels were in Russian, but he achieved international prominence after he began writing English prose.
