COUNT PETR ANDREEVICH TOLSTOY was * 1645, + 17.ii.1729, Solovetsky Monastery on the Solovetsky Islands in the White Sea, and was bu. there. He was a stolnik, 1678; loyalist during the Streltsy Revolt, 1682; travelled extensively in Holland, England, and Italy, 1697-1699; Russian ambassador to the Sublime Porte, 1701-1714; Senator and President of the Kammerkollegiugm, 1717; Head of the Privy Chancellery, 1718; granted the title of count by Peter the Great, 7.v.1724; member of the Supreme Privy Council; having broken with Menshikov, he fell from favour, was deprived of his ranks and titles, and exiled to the Solovetsky Monastery, 1727 (he died there two years later). His portrait, painted in the 1710s by Johann Gottfried Tannauer, survives.
He oo 1683/84 to SALOMONIDA TIMOFEEVNA DUBROVSKAYA, daughter of Timofei Bogdanovich Dubrovsky, who + 1722, before 22.vi.
