He migrated to Toronto in present-day Ontario (as did his father, Robert James Sr. (abt.1776-1870), brother William James (abt.1801-1874), and perhaps other siblings as well). In 1871 he was living in Toronto's St. James Ward with his first wife, Ann Harriet (Heron) Ward (1810-1874).[3] Following her death, he married Dora Matthews in Toronto on May 11, 1875,[4] with whom he continued to live in St. James Ward as a "gentleman".[5] Robert died in Toronto on April 15, 1887,[6] and was buried on the 18th in Toronto Necropolis Cemetery.[7]
