Biography

LYSBETH (ELIZABETH) POST married, September 26, 1674, in New Amsterdam, New York; JACOB2 DU TRIEUX (PHILIPPE ANTONI), who was born December 2, 1645 in New Amsterdam, New Netherlands, NY, and died December 27, 1709 in New Castle Co., DE.

Elizabeth|Lysbeth was the daughter of LODEWYCK POST and AGNIETJE BONEN and was born July 8, 1655, in New Amsterdam, New Netherland, NY [Bapt. record found at NARDC], and died between 1730 and 1733 in New Castle, Delaware. [1]

Parents

There was conflicting information relating to Lysbeth's parents: Possible parents[1]

The actual parents were:

  • Father: Lodowyck Post
  • Mother: Agnietje Bonen

Elizabeth's mother Agnietie Bonen, wife of Lodowyck Pos, sponsored Elizabeth's first daughter Agnietie's baptism in 1675, and Elizabeth's two brothers Elias Post and Willem Post sponsored her twin sons Willem Dutruex and Jacob Dutruex baptism in 1683. Elizabeth, Willem and Elias were the youngest children of Lodowyck Pos and Agnietje Bonen.

The suggested alternate parents: Adriaen Crynen Post Capt.; d. 18 Feb 1677, Bergen, Bergen, NJ and Claretje (Clara) moockers, d. 4 Dec 1675, Communipaw, Bergen, (Hudson), NJ. is thus disproved. They were not the parents of Elizabeth that married Jacob du Trieux.

Birth

Elisabeth's NRDC Marriage record stated that both Jacob and Lysbeth were of "N. Orangeien" [2], then Nieuw Amsterdam. Jacob's bapt rec was found at NARDC. Lysbeth (Elizabeth) bapt record was found at the Nieuw Amsterdam, Nieuw Nederland Reformed Dutch Church. She was baptized Jul 18 1655.[3][4].

Other sources that have been disproved:

  • Lysbeth Post was said to have been born abt. 1650 [5] [Baptizm entry not found at NARDC for this date]This has been disproved.
  • Lysbeth born in New Amsterdam, may have been christened/baptised on 18 Jul 1655 in The Hague, South Holland, Netherlands[6]. This birth has been disproved.

Life Events

Jacob Du Trieux and Lysbeth (Elizabeth Post), his wife, were the 1st of the du Truax name to settle in Monmouth County, East Jersey, which he had done March 7, 1676 when he was conveyed 12 acres in Middletown (Book E/page 43). According to Honor in his "This Old Monmouth of Ours", page 264, Jacob located at Freehold, NJ where he had about 400 acres of land.

It was during Jacob's Du Trieux's generation that the family began to change its spelling of Du Trieux and shifted to either Dutruex, Truax or Truex. - [7]

Jacob du Trieux,(baptized at New Amsterdam on December 2, 1645 (NYG&B 57/338)[8]), married at the Dutch Reformed Church, New Amsterdam, September 26, 1674, to Elizabeth "Lysbeth" Post[9]. She was a daughter of Lodewyck and Agnietje (Bonen) Pos or Post. Lysbeth was baptized at New Amsterdam on July 18, 1655 and may have died after 1730.[1]

For example, a theory is written about, discussing the presence of certain individuals at the baptism of "Elizabeth's"(?) first daughter (Agnietie?), but that daughter is not listed among her children here. That doesn't make for a very strong argument if no proofs of that baptism exist to the extent that a profile is unsupported.

OR, is the suggestion that daughter Agnes (b. c. 1675) is the scenario that establishes relationships?

(Please see also the previous comment. Thanks)

It would be nice if the family tree related items that are included here as "sources" were all moved to = Research Notes = (where such leads belong, as they are not linked to actual sources) and then a much clearer profile would emerge in terms of what evidence actually exists that is based upon primary and secondary sources.

Also, a section = Disputed Origins = should be created as the topmost section under Biography, and an explanation of how the accepted parents are proven added. The relative weight of proof for the disproven set of parents should be discussed. It is not clear that the rejected set of parents are actually disproven. It is best to use inline sourcing for such sensitive topics.

I might be able to help with these edits, but first wanted to make the notations here.

Charles and Benjamin Jr were sons of Benjamin Sr and his first wife, Mary Leonard. Agnes is found in a land transaction dated 1727 and Charles and Benjamin Jr was given property in a land transaction in 1721. See their profiles for more information
