Hi Debbie,

This profile definitely needs work, but the sources you list are considered unreliable for medieval Scottish profiles. Please see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Scotland_Project_Reliable_Sources.

This seems to be a myth. No source given to back up name, locations and dates. Biographies should be supported with reliable sources not imported from another "family tree" unless sources have been checked.

No, actually, there is documentation. I tried to add some sources to the profile but don't have certification to work on pre-1500 profiles, so I can't add anything. Here are some links:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferteth,_Earl_of_Strathearn

https://www.geni.com/people/Ferteth-Earl-or-Mormaer-of-Strathearn/6000000004148943482?through=6000000012060155334

https://www.thepeerage.com/p10775.htm#i107748

I don't know where the profile creator got the info showing for his birth and death though, as what is on this page doesn't match what any of the other sites have.

Geni shows that info as:

Birth: estimated between 1145 and 1145 Death: 1171

The Peerage states: He died before December 1170

WIkipedia states: He died in 1171

Notice there are no places given for either his birth or death.

Also, he was the second-known earl or mormaer of Strathearn.

His Geni profile has a lot more details and lists additional links:

As Jen Hutton has said, I am afraid, Debbie, that none of these are reliable sources for a pre-1700 or pre-1500 profile.

My comment was on the lack of source to support this entry but there are proper sources. e.g. his death date of 1171 comes from "The Chronicle of Melrose" p.84.

The wikipedia entry is good but not a source, the others are far too unreliable as I find them full of errors. Suggest Scottish History Society "Charters of Inchaffray Abbey" and especially Cynthia J. Neville' s 1983 thesis at Aberdeen University "The Earls of Strathearn from mid-12th to mid-14th centuries" Vol.1 Chapter Two as the best and both available on-line. Unfortunately at present I am occupied elsewhere or would tackle this.
