Caroline Frances Oatley died at 989 Westminster Street in Providence, Rhode Island on 25 December 1906 aged 80 years, 7 months and 17 days. She was the widow of Allen G. Oatley and was born in Providence, the daughter of John and Mary T. Crandall, her calculated date of birth being 8 May 1826.[1]
Caroline is buried in the North Burial Ground in Providence, Rhode Island with her husband, Allen G. Oatley, and two infant sons, William Herbert Oatley and Frank Allen Oatley.[2]
Caroline F. Crandall and Alpheus W. Randall were married in Killingly, Connecticut on 20 July 1845 by Rev. Benjamin C. Phelps.[3]
According to a biography of Caroline's husband, Alpheus William Randall, posted on his Find A Grave memorial page, Alpheus married Caroline Francis Crandall in Killingly, Connecticut on 20 July 1854 [sic]. After their marriage, Alpheus enlisted as private for service during the Mexican War (Mexican War pension certificate no. 19,703) and after the war he divorced Caroline and moved to California.[4]
Caroline married second to Allen George Oatley in Rhode Island on 17 August 1851.[5] They were residing in Providence in 1860 with their three children, Ella, age 8, Walter, age 6, and Frederick, age 2.[6]
In 1870, Caroline and Allen Oatley were still living in Providence with their four children, M. Ella, age 18, Walter M., age 16, Frederick H., age 11, and Carrie M., age 4.[7]
In 1880, Carrie F., age 54 and Allen Oatley, age 51, an agent for a coal dealer, born in England, resided at 53 Harrison Street in Providence with three of their children, Walter M., age 26, M. Ella, age 28, and Carrie E., age 14.[8]
In 1900, Caroline Oakley, born May 1826 in Rhode Island, a widow who had been married for 40 years and was the mother of seven children, four of whom were still living, resided as a boarder in the household of Sydney Cornell in Cranston, Rhode Island. 34-year-old Carrie E. Oakley, born in January 1866, an office clerk, is also a boarder in the household.[9]
