Disputed Marriage and Offspring

This profile originally showed Hannah Collins as the wife of Jonathan Gilbert, Sr., without source. Jonathan Sr.'s known marriage, per Families of Early Hartford, Connecticut (see Sources below), was to Keziah Smith. The link between his profile and that of Hannah Collins has therefore been severed.

Hannah Collins's spouse was, in fact, Jonathan Gilbert, Jr., the son of Jonathan, Sr., and Keziah. Those two profiles have now been linked.

Relatedly, this profile originally showed Lucy (Gilbert) Dickinson as a daughter of Hannah Collins and Jonathan Gilbert, Sr.; Lucy was in fact the daughter of Hannah and husband Jonathan, Jr. The link between Lucy and Jonathan, Sr., has been severed; the link between Lucy and Hannah as daughter and mother had been severed, but has now been restored.

Biography

Jonathan Gilbert was born in Hartford County, Connecticut Colony, in 1709; he was christened there on the penultimate day of October of that year, a son of Ebenezer Gilbert and Esther (Allyn) Gilbert. He married Keziah Smith at Farmington in late June of 1742.

Jonathan is referred to as "Dr. Gilbert" in the 1928 genealogy Descendants of William Kelsey, Volume 2, in a passage noting the marriage of Seth Gilbert -- son of Jonathan and brother of Keziah (Gilbert) Kelsey -- to Lucy Kelsey -- sister of Keziah's husband Enoch[1][2].

No certain record of the death of Dr. Jonathan Gilbert -- nor of Keziah (Smith) Gilbert -- has been located online to date.

Research Notes

Given that there is an established connection between the Goodrich and Gilbert families, it may be of interest that NEHGS (americanancestors.org) shows, by subscription, the record of the 1742 marriage of a Hannah Collins to Abraham Goodrich, at Wethersfield.[3]
