Biography

Anna Barbara Koch was born or baptised on 4 August 1666 in Seckenheim, Kurpfalz, Heiliges Römisches Reich Deutscher Nation (Electorate of the Palatinate, Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation), according to present-day administrive divisions: Seckenheim, Mannheim, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Federal Republic of Germany).

On 14 July 1688 she was wed to Johann Ulrich Schmidt, with whom she had a daughter Anna Barbara Schmidt.

Anna Barbara Koch Schmidt died on 6 June 1703 in Columbia county, New York. [1]

Note Regarding Her Christian Name

Amongst many seventeenth- and eighteenth-century German (and some Dutch) families, it was a convention to baptise all male babies JOHANNES / JOHANN (meaning John in English), and all female babies ANNA or MARIA. The second name - the calling name - was the name actually used. Thus Anna Barbara Koch was called Barbara, Johann Ulrich Schmidt was called Ulrich. Nota bene: the calling name is not a middle name, but rather, part of the whole baptismal name. - Albertus 08:31, 27 March 2015 (EDT)
