Biography

Elizabeth Halliday was born about 1608. She was the daughter of John Halliday and Alice Ferrers.

She was baptised on 15 December 1608 at St Michael Bassishaw, London. The parish register records: "December 15 was Baptized Elizabeth Holladay daughter of John Holladay gentleman".[1]

Her father died when she was very young and when her grandfather, Sir Leonard Halliday, died in 1612, he made provision for her. His will dated 11 January 1611/2 stated:

Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Hallydaye my grandchild one thousand poundes of like lawfull money to be paid unto her at her age of one and twentie yeares or marriage w[hi]ch shall first happen upon like condicon that the said Alyce [her mother]... shall p[er]mitt and suffer my said wyfe to have the Custody educacon and bringing up of the said Elizabeth duringe her mynorytye or untill she shalbe married.[2][3]

She married John Jacob of Bromley, Middlesex, and Gamlingay, Carmbridgeshire, by whom he had three children.[4] Elizabeth and John were married on 1 April 1625 at St Leonard, Bromley by Bow, Middlesex.[5]

In February 1626/7, she was mentioned in a judgement of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury about the will of William Ferrers of St Leonard Bromley, Middlesex. The judgement referred to "Elizabetham Hollyday als Jacob Johannem Jacob eius maritum Johannem Hollyday Thomas Ingram Rpgeru' Ferrers Henricu' Ferrers et Edwardum Ferrers".[6]

She died before June 1632, when her husband married his second wife.[4]
