Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Isaac Collier was a Virginia colonist.

Isack, son of Isaac Collyer and Elizabeth Unknown, was baptized 4 May 1653 at St Antholin, Cordwainer, London (City).[1] [2] He apparently never married and had no children.

Isaac Collier, Jr., was bequeathed a Virginia plantation called Morgan's Plantation by his "cousin" Edward Lockey, brother of his step-mother, Mary Lockey, in 1667. Read's plantation was left to Edward's wife Elizabeth and after her death to Isaac Collier, Jr.[3] Isaac was dead by 1671, as the land went to "Judith Lockey, who had married Henry Cary,... 'land excepted which is adjudged to the brother of said Isaac Collier.' (General Court Records, MSS.)[4]

Isaac died without heirs before 24 May 1671 in York County. At a General Court held at James Citty, beginning 22 May 1671:

  • Cary vs Collier: Suit of Henry Cary, husband of Judith Lockey, residual heir of property left nephews and nieces of Edward Lockey including Isaac Collier, to be put in possession of lands due his wife Judith beause of the death of Isaac Collier and presumed death of William Carter. The Court ruled in his favor.[5]

isaac is not named In his father's 1687/8 will. It names wife Mary and only the four children Isaac, Sr., had with her (Charles, Abraham, Thomas, and Sarah).[6]

Research Notes

Sarah, daughter of Isaac Collier, married William Whitaker ("William Whitaker, of Warwick, and Sarah, his wife, daughter of Isaac Collier, joined in a deed" in 1706).[7]

I have removed the death place, Porto Bello, York County, from this profile. Porto Bello was not built until about 1758. It is said to have been built as a hunting lodge by Cornelius Collier.[8] This Cornelius was not a descendant of Isaac Collyer, but of his brother Charles Collier. Removed Mary Lockey as mother, based on transcription of his baptism record (mother Elizabeth).
