Biography

Severin Kihl or Söffrin Henningsson Kijl was born sometime before 1500 in Holstein, Holy Roman Empire (now Germany). His parents were Henning Kihl (son of Severin Kihl) and Pernilla Munck.

In 1523, Söffrin is already recorded as King Gustaf I's chief of staff for two German banners in the war against Halland. In 1525 Söffrin was given the fiefdom of Kind in Västergötland and in 1526 he is listed among the armoury services constituting the nobility in Västergötland. Söffrin became a hövidsman of Älvsborg Castle and County in 1530 and obtained Mo County in Fief between 1540-1549.

Söffrin married Malin Ribbing, daughter of the lawman Knut Pedersson Ribbing, and Kerstin Gustafsdotter Stierna.

Their children were:

• Peder Söffrinsson Kijl. Commanding officer at Gullberg, married Agneta Arvidsdotter Drake
• Anna Söffrinsdotter Kijl, married Anders Bosson Oxehufvud in 1539
• Carin Söffrinsdotter Kijl, married Hans Torstensson Forstena

When he died before 12 Aug 1553, his estates were given to Gustaf Olofsson Stenbock.
