Jan Janse(n) Ouderkerk was born about 1645 in Holland. He is said to have been born at Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, near Amsterdam, Noord Holland, Netherland.[1]
He emigrated to New Netherland in 1659[1] or 1660, arriving in New Amsterdam.[2]
He was in Beverwyck (Albany, New York) in 1664, working as a cooper.[1][3] He was commonly called "Smalle Cuyper."[4]
His wife was named Ariantje; they married in about 1669.[1]
