Biography

Jannetje was born in Albany, New York, probably in the 1670s (before the date of the earliest surviving church records for Albany). Some online genealogies assert that she was born in 1673, but no evidence has been found supporting this specific date. She was a daughter of Christopher Bresie and Christina Claasz. In The Dutcher Family, Griffin listed Brusy, Brisse, Bressy, Bresjes, Brosie, Brusie, Pressy, Prusie, and Cressy as variant spellings of her family name.[1]

Roelof de Duytser and Jannetje Bresie were married on 17 November 1700 in the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York. According to the marriage record, Roelof was born in Mormelt and Jannetje in Albanien (Albany). They were both residing in Kingstouwn; it was the first marriage for both. [2] This appears to be the earliest known record for Jannetje.

Jannetje, widow of Rulof Dutcher, died on 26 July 1749,[3] probably in Connecticut, where the family had lived after about 1720. In his will, written 17 January 1736/7, her husband described himself as of Weataug (modern spelling is Weatogue) in Connecticut.[4]
