Edward Scott married Sarah Carter, 18 Dec 1599 in Glemsford, Suffolk, England. [1]
Edward Scott was named as the eldest son in the will of his father, dated 8 September 1627. [2]
Note that Sir Anthony Wagner, in his book, “English Genealogy", places Edward as the son of the Richard Scott, clothier, of Glemsford, who died in 1565.
He was mentioned in the will of his son, George Scott, in 1640.
If the will shown in this profile does belong to this man, then Edward's wife at the time he wrote his will was Marie (or more likely Mary). If his first wife Sarah was the one who died in Glemsford on 21 Aug 1631[12] then it is very possible that he married Mary Frost on 9 Jan 1632/33 at Lawshall, Suffolk about 7 miles away.[13] This was most likely the Mary Frost christened 28 Oct 1601 at All Saints. Lawshall, daughter of Henry Frost.[14] with sisters Elizabeth (1595), Ann (1598) and Bridget (1604) all christened in the same place. Henry Frost married Ann Eley at All Saints Lawshall 1 Nov 1593.[15] Of course, it may be a different Edward Scott but no Scott baptisms are found in Lawshall from 1633 through 1643 at freereg, findmypast, familysearch or ancestry so it seems whichever Edward Scott married Mary Frost there in 1633, they did not stay in the parish or else they had no children. Neither have any Scott burials been found through 1713 except for a Robert in 1664 so it would seem Edward & Mary did not stay childless in Lawshall until they died.
This is far from certain given the common names, and in total four Sarah Scotts died at Glemsford St. Mary between 1631 and 1640 as found at findmypast.co.uk, all without supplemental information in the transcriptions so any of them could have been the wife of Edward Scott. Bowen in his "Collected Papers" cited here asserts that the Sarah buried on 29 Mar 1633 was the wife of Edward Scott but unless the original image was available and specified that she was wife of Edward Scott, it seems difficult to assert when Edward's wife died.[16]
He died in 1643. [17]

Discussion of Richard Scott ancestry: this G2G post.
In 1871, Martin B. Scott published an article in The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record giving a lineage for the Richard Scott who lived in Providence, Rhode Island, which included the Scotts of Scot's Hall in county Kent, England (a rather distinguished family).[18] It gives Richard's father as another Richard, who was son of Edward. JR Scott's Memorials of Scott of Scot's Hall also links the Scotts of Glemsford to Richard Scott of Scot's Hall.[19]
In 1942, Richard LeBaron Bowen published in NEHGR repeating this theory and adding a coat of arms to the Providence family, based on a 1608 armorial pedigree roll.[20] Bowen followed up in 1957 with a further genealogy in his "collected papers". [17] Bowen has Richard as the son of Edward (1574-1643), son of Edward (??-1627), third son of Richard Scott (brother of Sir Reginald Scott of Scot's Hall). Moriarty's corrections to Austin's Genealogical Dictionary repeats this theory of the Scott family.[21]
Sir Anthony Wagner of Oxford published English Genealogy in which he disputed this theory. Describing the 1608 roll as "spurious" he notes that the will of Sir Reginald Scott gave his potential heirs after his children and his nephew as passing to his uncle. This disproves the existence of surviving heirs of any other brother of Sir Reginald.[22]
A further article was published in 1988 in the American Genealogist.[23] It notes that Edward was baptized in 1574, so he could not be the grandfather of the colonist Richard who was baptized in 1605.

One Edward may well have had two wives, the other explanation is that each wife is married to a difference Edward. This certainly needs sorting out.

So you're saying that the first cousin of this profile, Edward-36163 son of Richard-17794 and Margaret Harvey-13959, is maybe conflated here? So maybe it was Cousin Edward who wrote the 1642 will naming wife Marie? I have to keep editing this reply because I'm so confused... But now I see this is not possible since Cousin Edward-36163 son of Richard & Margaret Harvey was born in 1618 so far too young to have all the children listed in the 1642 will with their various ages. But maybe it was another older Edward?

The only remaining uncertainty in relation to Scott-5659 is whether he is the son of Edward Scott (Scott-17768) or son of Richard (as per Wagner). Given Richard was buried in 1565 this can be excluded as impossible.
I haven't read it or attempted to transcribe it.
From prior discussions, there were multiple Richard Scotts in the same area at the same time. I suggest you obtain a copy of "English Genealogy", 1st Edition, Oxford, 1960, 366-367, 2nd ed., Oxford, 1972, 415-416, and/or 3rd ed., Chichester, 1983, 415-416 to review, along with the TAG article.
At this point, I will request that further discussion be moved to G2G (start a new post) in order for the entire Wikitree community to be made aware of it (tag with EuroAristo and England). Thank you.
