Biography

Robert Seabrook, the immigrant, had a daughter who married Thomas Fairchild of Stratford, Connecticut. We know this by a deed naming Samuel and Thomas Fairchild as grandsons of Robert Seabrook.[1] There are no records in New England that contain the given name of Robert Seabrook's daughter or Thomas Fairchild's wife. New research strongly suggests her name is Emme.

The first child of Thomas Fairchild and his Unknown Seabrook wife was born in 1640.[1]

From this birth it is estimated that Fairchild and Seabrook were married about 1639, and that she was born about 1619.[1]

Thomas Fairchild remarried, by contract, 22 Dec 1662, setting his wife's death as before this date.[1]

Children of Thomas Fairchild and his first wife ______ Seabrook

  2. Sarah was born 19 February 1641 [1641/2]. She married Jahiel Preston
  3. John was born 1 May 1644
  4. Thomas was born 26 February 1645 [1645/6]
  5. Dinah was born 14 July 1648
  6. Zechariah was born 14 December 1651
  7. Emm was born 23 October 1653. She married Hachaliah Preston.

A Probable English Origin

A Feb 2022 Connecticut Ancestry article, by Randy A West, has provided an entirely new scenario for the origins of Robert Seabrooke.[2] In addition, he has found information on the baptisms of Robert's daughters.

Given that Robert had two known daughters: Unknown born say 1619 and Sarah born about 1623. An English records search found baptisms in Chilcote, Derbyshire (now Leicestershire) that fit the criteria.[3]

  • 15 Nov 1620/1 "Em[m]e Seabrooke the daughter of Robert Seabrooke"
  • 1 [November?] 1623 "Sara the daughter of Robert Seabrooke

No other baptisms or burials were found in the Chilcote registers for this family. The ages are a good fit for previous estimates of the daughters ages and Thomas Fairchild and wife named a daughter Emma.[2]

Genealogy hates a vacuum

Several persons have been "discovered" and written down as possible given names for ______ (Seabrook) Fairchild.

  • Emma : Emma Seabrok was bpt 01 Jan 1606 in IVINGHOE, BUCKINGHAM, ENGLAND but...she was daughter of Thomas, not Robert.[4] :
  • Another probable Emma has now been discovered by Randy West see A Probable English Origin
  • Faith : "Fayth" Seaybrowck bpt 21 Dec 1636 in TRING, HERTFORD, ENGLAND d/o Robart Seaybrowck[5] doesn't fit. She was much to young, only three in 1639.
  • Joanna : Johanna Seabrok, bpt 08 May 1608 IVINGHOE, BUCKINGHAM, ENGLAND was a d/o Thomas Seabrok[6]
  • Sarah : The problem with Sarah as a given name for Thomas Fairchild's wife is that Sarah the daughter of Robert married Thomas Sherwood, so we know her name was not Sarah.

There are possibilities to go back farther but I haven't had the time.

An Alice Goodspeed married a Robert Seabrook, but it cannot be proved that this was the immigrant. Take a look at Robert Seabrooks profile for information.

No it hasn't. Someone just snuck Sarah back. Emma was the daughter of Thomas. Anyone seen the book Joe cited? What sources does it use?

Has her given name been proven to be Emma? (apparently Sarah is unproven)

The exact birth date (28 Dec 1618) and death date (23 Oct 1658) on this profile suggest there must have been a source for that information, but no source has been provided. In anticipation of the merge of this profile for Emma Faith Seabrooke-47, the wife of Thomas Fairchild-48, with Seabrook-9, I've removed the birth and death dates and changed her name to Unknown. See the information on Seabrook-9 which explains that her name, birth and death dates are all unknown.

Seabrook-141 and Seabrook-9 appear to represent the same person because: Careful analysis of available data has indicated that these persons were meant to be the same person, that is, the dtr of Robert Seabrook of Stratford and wife of Thomas Fairchild of Stratford. Her name is unknown but many unproven attempts have been made to give her a name. See the bio at Seabrook-9

Does she have multiple first names because we don't know who she was?
