So far no baptism for William has been found but there is plenty of evidence that he was the son of Hugh and Elizabeth Dixon (nee Hill) of Sunderland. William was mentioned in the will of Mary Hill as son of Elizabeth Dixon, her deceased sister. Executor's of William's own will were his brothers in law Andrew White, husband of William's sister Ophelia and Thomas Brown Young, husband of his sister Ann.
On 10 Nov 1818 William Dixon (of this parish) married Jane Hudson (of this parish), by licence at Bishopwearmouth, St Michael and All Angels. Witnesses: Isabel Hudson; R. Hudson; John Thompson; Thomas Hudson [4] The marriage licence states that the bride and bridegroom were both single and both upwards of 21 years of age.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
Dixon-6524 and Dixon-2418 appear to represent the same person because: Very sparse profile but they have the same father and were both ship owners of Sunderland
