Biography

James Gash was born in Lincolnshire, England.

James was born in 1877 He was the son of William Gash and Mary Tomlinson. ^[1]

In the 1881 census James (age 4) was the son of William and Mary Gash on Sibsey Road, Thornton le Fen, Lincolnshire, England. He was one of 10 children. ^[2]

A decade later in 1881 he was aged 13 and lived at home with 6 younger siblings and one older brother. He and his brother aged 14 were colliery labourers. The family had moved to Yorkshire. ^[3]

He passed away in 1954.

GRO birth reg June 1877 vol7a P593 Mother Tomlinson. Grandaughter thought his DOB was 3 Dec 1877 but I don't think that is correct.

I met Great Uncle Jim several times when he visited us in Rawmarsh, Yorkshire (he had emigrated to Canada in 1911). We took him to see relatives still living in England, including Newark in Nottinghamshire.
